Watch Your Car Program
The “Watch Your Car” Program is part of the Arizona Automobile Theft Authority's multi-layered, statewide effort to deter vehicle theft. Enrollment in the “Watch Your Car” Program is voluntary and offered free-of-charge to all Arizona residents with a valid driver's license. The Sun Lakes Sheriff’s Posse and other Law Enforcement Agencies watch for vehicles enrolled in the “Watch Your Car” Program.
The “Watch Your Car” Program is in effect each day between the hours of 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. when most vehicle thefts occur. The program also covers enrolled vehicles driven near a border location, regardless of the hour involved. Decals on the front or rear windows alert law enforcement personnel that your enrolled vehicle is not normally driven during the times, or in the locations, defined under the "Watch Your Car" Program.
If your enrolled vehicle is observed during the “Watch Your Car” Program's effective hours and/or near a border location, law enforcement personnel will consider it possibly stolen and will stop the vehicle.
Because of the very serious nature of the law enforcement stops that occur under the "Watch Your Car" Program, you should carefully consider whether you can comply with all aspects of the program before enrolling in it. Once enrolled, please tell everyone allowed to drive your vehicle that it is protected under the "Watch Your Car" Program. Make sure those drivers know that the police will stop the enrolled vehicle under the "Watch Your Car" program's directives and that they will be required to prove that you have authorized them to operate the enrolled vehicle.
